I know with summer approaching, many of us start thinking about our current
fitness levels, as “beach season” approaches.

Remember, if you have goals, you CAN achieve them. However, nothing happens
overnight and if you want to get in great shape, it takes a lot of hard
work, dedication, and consistency. We need to be exercising regularly,
utilizing a program that combines resistance training and cardiovascular
training, and our nutrition needs to be on point. With healthy weight loss
being at 1-2lbs per week, obviously, time frames for achieving goals will
vary.

My primary point here is that if you have a goal, and you want to achieve
that goal, then go out and actually make it happen.

If you say you don’t have time to work out, then go and FIND THE TIME to
work out. Don’t let yourself make excuses for why you are falling short of
achieving your goals.

If you say you can’t eat healthy, because there are not healthy foods around
the house, then CHANGE THAT SITUATION. Get rid of the processed foods, the
sugary items, and the foods filled with saturated fat. Look at the
nutrition labels, identify proper portion sizes, and take responsibility for
your nutrition habits. If you feel that these foods need to be present, in
some capacity in your home, for other members of your family, then so be
it. However, don’t make that a reason that YOU NEED TO EAT THOSE ITEMS.

Now, with all that said, it all comes down to your goals. If you are good
where you are at; then that is great. No need to make changes. However, if
you feel unsatisfied with where you are at, then take the bull by the horns
and do something about it.

When it comes to fitness and nutrition, we need to take responsibility for
our own actions. Don’t place the blame somewhere else.

Make decisions. Make changes. Make things happen.

Adam

Here is a video clip from my most recent interview on KDOC’s “The Daily Buzz” regarding New Year’s Resolutions. It’s always such a shame how many people go into the New Year determined to achieve their fitness goals, yet ultimately fail. It all comes down to hard work and determination. Most importantly, you really need to find something that you enjoy doing, when it comes to working out. Hopefully it’s a Boot Camp such as mine! Or it could be Personal Training. I do that too!

However, even if those aren’t for you, there are tons of other options. Yoga, Pilates, Spinning, and Kickboxing are just a handful of activities that can help you achieve your fitness goals (just don’t forget about incorporating a good nutrition program).

While I firmly believe that enrolling in Maximum Boot Camp or working with me one-on-one or two-on-one to achieve your goals will get you better results at a faster pace, the above options are still solid, and in the end, if you enjoy something, most likely, you will stick with it. At the end of the day, that is the most important aspect of a solid and successful fitness program.

Spot Reduction is a MYTH

Ever see those infomercials for those crazy abdominal machines? I love the ones that you place on your stomach that provide electrical stimulation that promises to melt fat. Or how about the ones that market themselves as relaxing, where you sit in a machine (dubbed as being FUN) and it gets your abs completely ripped and shredded!

Moving right along, I just love all the Abdominal workout DVDs on the market. How about the ones that market themselves as ultra fast? Just 6-10 minutes a day of their “ab sculpting routine” and you will be SHREDDED! Truth is, just about all these folks are guilty of marketing their particular brand of snake oil to get us to believe that they can deliver a lean, toned mid-section.

The truth is this. Anything that enables you to work your core musculature, thereby gaining muscle and strengthening your abs and lower back, is a definite positive. But do these workouts alone actually get you lean in your midsection? Do they get you ripped? DEFINITELY NOT!

On the Fitness Totem Pole, on what are the best ways to get lean abs, these DVDs and machines are at the BOTTOM. Any personal trainer or fitness expert would agree. Those who put out these products would also agree, just in the back room somewhere, away from the products they hawk.

Why are they at the bottom? Well, examine what they are promising. An ab/core machine or DVD is basically saying that if you use the machine or DVD, that you will get lean abs. Simple as that. Now, I know some may argue that their fine print says that you should follow a diet and exercise program as well. It doesn’t matter. They are marketing the notion that if you use method “X,” you’ll develop ripped and lean abs. No way! Why? Because Spot Reduction is a MYTH.

The idea that you can do sit-ups and burn fat in your stomach, well, it just doesn’t work that way. Have you ever seen anyone with a lean mid section, with defined abs? The rest of their body is also very lean. How do they get there? By following a regimen that includes the following:

•	A diet that’s comprised of Lean Proteins, Complex Carboyhdrates, and Healthy Fats.
•	A rigorous program of exercise that includes Cardiovascular activity and Resistance Training.

That’s all there is to it! Remember, we ALL have a six pack. It’s just that most of us have buried it under a layer of fat. To make your six pack visible, to get abs that are pronounced, eat clean, do cardio intervals, and do resistance training (upper body, lower body, and core). It’s a simple as that.

It’s all about commitment!

Are you looking to lose weight? Do you want to get leaner? Do you want be more toned? Have more energy? Whatever it is you want, at the end of the day the only way to get there is to COMMIT to this goal!

I’ve been in the fitness industry for almost 10 years now, managing various gyms and of course over the past 3 1/2 years running my own fitness boot camps, and I have always found that the biggest obstacle to improving your level of fitness is a failure to commit to that goal.

To some gyms, COMMITMENT is a word that’s taboo, something they want to stay away from. Why? Because they feel that most people are afraid of commitment, and that if they’re persuaded to commit, won’t sign up.

While this may make sense from a sales standpoint, from the vantage point of achieving your goals, it’s backwards thinking. Of course you have to commit. If you don’t commit to a goal, then how are you ever going to achieve it? Wishy-washy fitness doesn’t work. Good weeks and bad weeks intermingled with each other are a long, winding road to nowhere.

When it comes to committing to your goals, it’s very easy to put it off, to decide to wait because work is too demanding. Or you decide to hold off till summer gets closer. Or maybe things at home are busy. There are so many excuses a person can make before diving in and just making a commitment to fitness and to themselves. However, if you have a goal, frankly, you just have to dive in and make the commitment!

With boot camp locations in Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica and classes held at various times throughout the week, Maximum Boot Camp will help you achieve your goals. Our boot camp program can help you to get lean, get fit, and get strong. We will train you to be your very best! If you are looking for nutritional advice, we can provide that as well. The truth is, we are a one stop shop for your fitness needs!

So if you are on our site and you’ve looked around a bit, but are still unsure if you want to sign up, make the decision to go after your goal, RIGHT NOW! Not tomorrow, not next week, not next month…RIGHT NOW! Take a look in the mirror. Do you like what you see? Or do you want to see something else? Then go and do something about it. NOW! The only person standing in the way of achieving your fitness goals is YOU. So get out of your own way and commit, commit, COMMIT!

Adam Kalt is the Founder of Maximum Boot Camp™ and the creator of the M.X.I.™ Training System. With nearly 10 years of experience, Adam has helped hundreds and hundreds of people achieve their fitness goals. Adam believes in the idea of No Nonsense Motivation!™, meaning that he will tell it like it is and be straightforward at all times, but in an encouraging and positive manner. Adam is committed and dedicated to helping everyone and anyone he works with maximize their potential. Adam is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

M.X.I.™ isn’t just a Training Method. It’s a State of Mind!

I love working out. As an avid exercise enthusiast, when I work out, my goal is always to push hard and give every workout everything I have. There is a great sense of satisfaction you get when complete a workout and you know you pushed yourself to your maximum ability. Conversely, I know that when I complete a workout and know that I didn’t really push hard, I feel less than satisfied.

This brings me to the topic of intensity when it comes to achieving one’s goals. At Maximum Boot Camp, I have a variety of clients with all sorts of different backgrounds and fitness levels. However, there is one universal truth: the clients who push the hardest are the ones who walk away at the end of the four week session with the best results. These are the types of clients who, when it’s time to drop down and knock out some pushups, stay with it for as long as possible, resisting the urge to take a break. These are the types of clients who, when we sprint up a hill, keep the engine running and don’t let up till they reach their destination.

Granted, not everyone can sprint up a hill, or do 50 pushups. It is not about that at all. It is about the effort. There is a big difference between pushing yourself and just going through the motions. Pushing yourself gets you to your goals faster. Going through the motions isn’t a terrible thing. Working out is MUCH better than not working out. Working out at a 60% intensity level will yield many benefits, but if you have a goal, and you’ve set your mind on that goal, and you want to achieve that goal in as short a time as possible, then you need to make sure you are not leaving anything behind when that workout is completed. Give it your all. Achieve your goals. Anything is possible. But it is up to YOU to make it happen!

Until next time.
